A lot of people on my gift list are getting tins full of homemade goodies. I got the tins at the dollar store, and I’ll be filling them with homemade fudge and several types of cookies.

People really appreciate these, especially if they don’t ever bake (like my boss).

There have been times when I attend a pottery or art class around Christmas, also I’ve made things out of wood. We have a very nice woodworking shop in our basement. Anyways, be creative. The journey is part of the gift.

Anyone want to share some cool DIY gifts?
An ornament, a plate of cookies. A night of free babysitting. Folding laundry with out being asked (any chore will do)…etc

Jen…fudge…yum

I never learned how to make it. Whenever someone gives it to me, I always allow only one piece per person per day. 😃

Definitely an appreciated gift! 👍

Great fudge recipe on the back of the marshmallow fluff jar! 😃

Peace,
Linda

pick up a box of 12 clear or frosted glass ball ornaments from hobby lobby for about $5, and 2-3 small bottles acrylic paint in different colors - for $1 each, also a bottle of glitter if you want and a bottle of white glue. work over newspaper.

dribble small amounts of paint inside the globe, one color at a time, and swirl to make patterns. let each color dry before you try another color. Or use glue and glitter. When they are dry, replace the hanger, tie a ribbon in it, wrap in tissue paper. Each ornament will cost about $1 to make, and you have 12 gifts.

If you want to make painted designs, you can use a brush and paint the outside, rather than the abstract effect you get from the first method.

picture frames
buy a piece of foam core and a piece of poster board, and an exacto knife. Cut the cardboard into picture frame size, and the foam core is the front of the frame, you cut the outside to match the cardboard, and the inside to match a standard photo size, 5x7 is best. hot glue gun works best for this project. decorate with stickers, foamies, artificial flowers, scrapbooking decorations, pictures cut from old greeting cards, sequins, beads, old broken jewelry, feathers, get creative. cut a wedge of foam core and glue it to the back to make the frame stand up, or use a twist tie as a wall hanger. make sure to leave the top open between the cardboard and frame to insert the picture. personalize the frames to the interests of your friends.

dollar store has counted cross-stitche ornaments for $1 if you like to do needlework

guy gift: ball for his sport, decorated with tissue & cutouts from old Christmas cards as ornaments, or make it the head of a sports figure made of wrapping paper or newspaper, clothed in tissue uniform of team colors. (make sure decorations are removable so he can use the ball later.) hub is getting a Christmas tree made of a pyramid of softballs, tennis balls and golf balls, with colored tees as ornaments.

kick down the spiritual gifts. make a cool card or coupon book that shows all the spiritual stuff you are giving someone…some suggestions:

1 mass
1 eucharist
rosary
novena
time in adoration
etc.

I was super impressed/humbled when I got one. It is free for you…but it is cool cause it takes time…something that most presents don’t.

Wow, I really loved this idea and am going to try my hand at it!

Seven Sorrows, your spiritual gift idea is inspired! I’m going to do it too!

I agree!!! great idea!

Last year my son (now age 14) made boxes of homemade truffles for each of his teachers, each of his aunts and uncles, and some special friends. Each box held 16 truffles, each layer of four with a different coating, and he made them entirely himself. The recipe is on the inside of Ghiradelli cocolate bars (the bittersweet, I think) – they’re very, very easy. He coated them with toasted coconut, ground pecans, confectioner’s sugar, and cocoa. The boxes looked professional and elegant (got the boxes at the dollar store and made little insert cards with the ingredients listed). I think he made 20 boxes!

I have made rosaries for family members. I’ve also made hats and mittens out of cute fleece for younger nieces and nephews – if you can sew a straight line these are REALLY easy (don’t even need a pattern).

the first year they were married, SIL made felt Christmas stockings for everyone, appliqued designs, my kids (in their 30s) still have theirs, a real heirloom, she has made one for each additional kid, now grandkid, born into their family. just came from Wally World, supplies for 2 stockings approx $4.00 if you use only felt and glue.
