My 13 year old dd is at a ECYD Convention this week. ECYD is a youth apostolate of Regnum Christi. Regnum Christi’s mission is to go out and convert the world, so their focus is on developing Catholic leaders who can be an agent for evangelizing culture.

One of their daily activities is to do missions. The girls and chaperones go into the small town (this one is a local tourist town) that is closest to camp. They are given small jobs to do like in a scavenger hunt. For example, a group of girls has to find a person whose name starts with “B” and ask them if they know the name of the Pope. Another mission is to find a pregnant woman and thank her for bringing life into the world.

I was so impressed with this concept. The girls are being trained on ways to initiate conversations and learning to use their gift of fortitude to approach people. And, it’s done under supervision in a fun way (a game).

I’ve learned that ECYD has used this exercise for years. It’s my dd’s first convention so it was new to me.

Isn’t it a neat concept? I wish more youth organizations would do this.

Has anyone actually been involved in an ECYD event like this? Has it affected your life?
