I believe that since the reported apparitions of the Blessed Mother in Zeitun, Egypt in the1960’s there has been dialogue. The current state of relations, I don’t know. Hopefully, someone here at CAF is knowledgeable on the subject.

Of note, there is a Coptic Catholic Church:

Chesterson - No I did not know that. I am wondering if the reported apparitions were/are occurring over a Coptic Catholic Church in Egypt?
Thank you so much for this info…this is an area of great interest to me and all that I have read has never mentioned that there was a Catholic Coptic Church in Egypt.

Back to the OP - which Church are you referring to?

Before 1995, I would have given the relationship between the Coptic Orthodox and the Catholic Church, on a scale of 1 - 10, an 8.5.

That changed at the end of 1994. At that time, the Catholic Church signed an official Christological Agreement with the Assyrian Church of the East, which has historic theological tensions with the Coptic Orthodox Church. Official talks with the Catholic Church ended, and did not resume until 2003 (IIRC).

It is one of the objectives of the Coptic Orthodox Church to obtain official clarification on the Christological matter from the Catholic Church, as the COC wants to preserve the intergrity of its own Christological Agreement with the CC from 1988. But (unless someone has any other info on the issue), such clarification has not come from Rome yet. So despite the resumption of dialogue, the relationship is still strained on the hierarchical levels, as evinced by HG Bishoy’s statements in 2007 that Catholics are not saved. Fortunately, though HH Pope Shenoute never explicitly repudiated these anti-Catholic sentiments, he nor the Coptic Synod has ever echoed them.

Yes, indeed. The Coptic Orthodox and the Latin Catholic Church have much in common.

Marduk - Yes, including the Blessed Mother!

I hope you can answer this for me. I have been very interested in the reported apparitions of the Blessed Mother in Egypt. I believe the Catholic Church acknowledged the appearances that took place for two years in Zeitun in 1968(?) so I think I am within forum rules asking these questions.

Do you know if she is reportedly still appearing in Egypt (I know there had been reports very recently)?
Also, do you know why there are no clear pictures? All recent photos/video seem to be from cell phones and are very fuzzy. Wouldn’t there be pictures/video from news cameras?

Sorry to get off topic - I have wanted to ask these questions for a year and didn’t know a Coptic to ask!

Thanks all for the replies. It is interesting. I know very little about the Copts.
