Corned beef and cabbage might be Bostonian, rather than actually Irish.
One of the articles I read said the Irish immigrants learned about corned beef from their Jewish neighbors & it was cheaper than bacon. Don’t know about the cabbage. I don’t like either, no matter where it comes from! 😉

I don’t particularly like corned beef so it was easy for me not to eat it and eat something that I do like. For some reason I don’t particularly like meat any more and I do eat a lot of fish and pasta dishes on Friday night.

This issue is humorous … but I am stunned by communications with family who have NO IDEA what fasting and abstinence is and what it involves.

NO IDEA.

Humorous as it may be, it was a real dilemma. At least I learned of the bishop’s pardon, that is news to me. Eating no meat on Fridays during lent I am actually succeeding at. I’ve been in need of a good observance for quite some time.
