Would it bother you if you did not see a Crucifix with a Corpus behind the altar?

no not as long as a proper crucifix was displayed someplace in church at all times including and especially when Mass is celebrated.

Well - Technically if the corpus is not there, it is not a crucifix, it is a cross. But yes it would likely bother me, unless of course there was a crucifx displayed on or in front of the altar. (The two sided type that you see on the EWTN mass)

However, given the size of many churches, the large Crucifix is far better.

I’m old-fashioned about this. My protestant friends love to accuse the Church of being too Mary-oriented. It’s not good for them to visit a church named Immaculate Conception or Our Lady of Fatima and have to look and look for Our Lord. It costs little to give Him the place of honor He deserves. Yes, I’m a fuddy-duddy about some things.

Yes, it would bother me and Yes, it did bother me. I was out of town visiting a small town in the Texas hill country. My wife and I went to Mass. Upon entering, the first thing I noticed was where the tabernacle was located. Always a good find! The second thing I noticed was a large statue of the risen Christ behind the altar. WOW!! Was it BIIIGG!!

It bothered me so much that I went to look up and find out if this was OK. I never did find a reference book or web site, but was able to discover something. If I remember correctly, a crucifix be in the general vicinity of the altar during Mass. The crucifix carried in the procession qualified because it was on a stand right next to the altar. I suppose a crucifix sitting on the altar would qualify as well.

But it did bother me. I remember thinking, “I wonder if the Bishop knows about this?” :highprayer:
