Corruption and Rom 8:21

Rom 8:21 NAB
“That creation itself would be set free from slavery to corruption (phthora) and share in the glorious freedom of the children of God.”

From this verse I understand that the creation down to the smallest levels (eg quarks) is corrupted. But then Jesus’ body which I presume was of this creation must have been built using corrupted atoms. Therefore Jesus’ earthly body was corrupt? What? Where’d I go wrong with this?

Corruption is understood as decay. The body is not corrupt until it dies (and is dead for four days, traditionally). I would presume quarks do not corrupt until entropy makes them useless, or some such equivalent – if you are correct that it applies even to quarks, then they must be changing or inter-changing even now…

That doesn’t seem too unlikely…

But, Jesus’s body laid in the tomb 3 days, and then rose.
In the resurrection, Jesus’ body was NOT the same as before.
He walked through walls, etc.

Loosely speaking, his flesh before the crucifixion was “infirm” – like ours is due to the fall. This is an effect of sin on the body of Adam and Eve, but it isn’t a sin in and of itself. The exact meaning of these things escapes me, too.

Hi Henning,

It does not say that creation is corrupt it says that it is subject to corruption. In fact, everything that is created can either die or deteriorate. One shoud link this passage to Revelation 21, which talks about a new heaven and a new earth, where we shall live with our glorified bodies.
