Is cosmetic surgery allowed under any circumstances? Would a procedure that reduced/eliminated the puffy bags under my eyes be sinful? I look tired and depressed and people comment on it all the time. Thinking about a sinus surgery or something if it isn’t sinful. Also is a nose reduction surgery acceptable? Thanks

Possibly; however there may be a difference between cosmetic surgery necessary in a business world as opposed to cosmetic surgery based on self pride.

And considering some nose jobs I have seen, sometimes the results are no improvement, to put it politely.

The nose one is because mine is a little crooked too. But the bags would be for chronic sinusitis surgery. I have stuffy nose all year too

It sounds like your plastic surgery may be more corrective-motivated and less vanity-motivated. Fixing your nose (by an ENT) may very well help your sinus issues. Your peripheral vision may be effected by puffiness and bags. I have several family members who had eye lifts because their vision was compromised.

Regarding purely cosmetic procedures, I think have something here or there may be okay, but trying to recreate yourself in the image of another (a lot of people take celebrity photos into plastic surgeons’ offices) with many procedures is changing the image of God in which we have been created.

I get this all the time. I’m as pale as a vampire and have long dark hair…I get asked if I’m sick often. Interestingly, when people find out that I have cancer and all that is going on, I nearly always get ‘well, you don’t look sick!’ 😂 WhatchaGonnaDo?!

Years ago I had a co-worker who had constant sinus problems and had surgery for it.

The best description is that he looked like a raccoon until the bruises resolved.

Well it all ties into sinuses, and I figured if I’m getting my nose operated on why not get it slightly corrected? And no I would never change my appearance because I have to much dignity for myself. Thanks (btw I don’t plan on having these procedure(s) anytime soon)

Oi…sorry, I’m not positive as this may be considered medical advice. 😱 I also have sinus issues and several sinus surgeries so I was speaking from that point of view.

I’m sorry if it read that I was implying that you were doing this–I truly wasn’t. And you are correct in that because we are judged on our appearance often excluding our other qualities. I personally don’t feel like getting a nose straighten out is a big deal at all. In fact, there is an area that I’ve considered plastic surgery, but I don’t have extra money and I’ve had and will continue to have many surgeries that are lifesaving and not elective. I hope everything works out for you!

How would you counsel a child if they complained that kids made fun of their looks? If they made fun of their nose or what ever. There is something to be learned on how to overcome negative remarks.

If someone made those comments to my dad, he would smile and say ‘We’re all getting older sweetheart. You’ll have your turn one day if you get to live this long!’

Living your life into grey hair, weight gain, saggy skin, that’s all part of life. Nothing to be sad over. It’s a time to be entering into with thanks to God. Many people did not have the opportunity to have wrinkles.

I’ve had the tv on during the day, so called doctor shows, and the amount of peddling they do to help women ‘look their best’ is awful. Plastic surgeons showing how they can plump your lips, help those crow’s feet on the corner of the eyes, those forehead creases. Please. This is how they make their living. They are helping to make women insecure about their looks, that they somehow fall short and look like exactly what you say… tired and depressed. That’s their gospel. Aging is a natural part of life and no matter who you are, smile more, be more kind, extend a hand to someone else, say thank you to people. This is our Gospel of Life.

When I come into church and see the women who are starting to have grey coming in, I am proud of them. They are not dyeing their hair, and they have a message they are sharing. They earned those grey hair! They have a maturity and a wisdom opposite to what the world is yelling at us, everywhere. We exalt youth so much, but it’s passing. All this world is passing. The clock keeps ticking and we are always moving forward in time. Enjoy where you are today. Embrace where you are. God is good.

Why? I’ve had sinus surgery twice, once a little over a week ago. I went home within hours with no problems. With the first one I wasn’t working but the most recent one I went back to work within 4 days.

It’s not the most pleasant procedure but it really isn’t worth a night in the hospital unless there were complications.

@saintlouisblues19 Unless you need a septoplasty it’s unlikely your ENT will “fix” your nose unless you make those arrangements before your procedure. It would also be a cosmetic procedure and likely not covered by insurance.

I see so many different shades and I’m like Wow 😃 I wonder if I’ll be silver or salt and pepper or bright white ! All so lovely and a sign of being closer to God if ya ask me. 😃

Well then it was a personal reason and not the norm. I’ve never known anyone to have to spend a night in the hospital due to sinus surgery.

I’m quite content with my big nose, thank you very much. Here’s the thing, if it’s for legitimate medical reasons, I don’t think it’s an issue, but if it’s because of the way you look, that’s kind of vanity. And vanity isn’t cool.

If you have a grand and magnificent proboscis such as mine, there would be to reasons:
  1. it would be a tragedy for it to be lost to our generation, and
  2. at this size, it might be comparable so someone else’s heart surgery!
