Try this link. courtinfo.ca.gov/selfhelp/other/namechangeform.htm

It has FAQs and explains how the fees vary by county. If you’re still in Torrance, the filing fee is $320.

Usually there is a waiting period after you file for the name change in case anyone wants to object to it, and there are several forms to complete. It should be a do-it-yourself thing. No attorney necessary under normal circumstances.

Best as I can remember it doesn’t cost anything to make the change with Social Security. You just have to mail or bring a copy of your legal name change paper to their office. Once you have your new social security card, you can just start using your new name on the IRS forms.

One mistake I made was to try and get my name changed on my driver’s license before changing it with the Social Security office. In North Carolina, at least, we can’t do that. The charge to change my driver’s license was $10.00

Don’t know about the passport.
