Could an Eastern Catholic be elected pope?

The thread addressing this question gave no definitive answer. My opinion would be in the affirmative. A friend thinks that, since he is chief bishop of the Latin rite, he must be from that rite. Can you give a definitive answer?
 
Yes, an Eastern Catholic could be elected pope, even if the title "Patriarch of the West
" still was in effect. As it is, that title was dropped by Pope Benedict XVI and is no longer an issue.
