Could God create a being that is identical to himself?

Question is about a logical impossibility. It does not stand to reason that there could be two omnipotent beings. If one were all powerful, he’d be able to destroy the other, who is also all powerful and could therefore prevent his own destruction.

Sounds like one of those “could God create a rock so heavy that He Himself couldn’t lift it?” type of questions…nonsensical.

No, God is an uncaused being. Any being God creates is caused by Him. Similarly, God cannot make a being not to have been made by Him.

In the mystery of the Holy Trinity, however, and from all eternity, God the Father generates His only begotten Son who is the Image of Himself and identical in substance or nature. This is not by creation but by eternal generation. And from all eternity, the third person of the Trinity, God the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son not by creation but from eternal spiration and he is identical in substance or nature to the Father and the Son.

Was it Lewis who gave the argument that the phrase “could God” renders any question nonsensical?

Not identical but ‘who is like God’ the Archangel Michael, and that’s apart from Our Lord Jesus.

It would be impossible. Someone who has a question like this has a fundamental misunderstanding of the nature of God.

The answer is no. Although, He already has created a human being that is perfect in every conceivable way. And that would be none other than the most Blessed Virgin Mary, whose will is in perfect harmony with her Creator!

I see what you did there.

It is an interesting question but sometimes I think too much philosophical thinking is too much for our own good. Sometimes we get stuck in traps of hypotheticals which then causes us to doubt

I’d say no because God wasn’t created so no created being could be identical to God.
