I think it’s a bit over-stated to blame divisions on religion.
Yes, people fight over religion, but they also fight over politics and class divisions and skin color and access to resources.
Look at the absolutely silly fights that break out in fandoms over which fictional character should date another fictional character.
Can religion be taught clumsily? Yes. But I would posit that happens a lot less nowadays.
Some people simply don’t like religion and use it as a punching bag
