Could Vatican II have been wrong in implementing the Novus Ordo Mass?

I think it’s important to note that Vatican II came about almost as two separate councils. The first was called by Pope John XXIII and the second was reconvened by Pope Paul VI. There are many who believe that Pope John wanted to “stop the council” but Pope Paul decided to continue it anyway. (Maybe he had his own agenda?) It was under the latter where the “spirit of Vatican II” and massive changes to and permissive behavior in the liturgy came about. By 1967, there was almost total chaos. Twenty some canons were being said and the Pope was almost forced to put his foot down and consolidate most of them down to four. Was it wrong? I think not, it was necessary. But is it necessary today, now that we’ve seen its effects?

Whether Vatican II really produced this Mass is highly debatable, but regardless it was definitely the Pauline Mass, brought about by a committee and approved (perhaps erroneously) into the many vernaculars and cultures.

But we also have the early Mass of Vatican II, the one that Pope John promulgated back in 1962. 😉 So maybe the whole issue is moot.
