Considering the fact that you quoted Fr.John Corapi in your siggy I kind of figured that you were Catholic. šŸ˜‰ Plus I most usually check people’s profiles. I was responding to what you quoted not you yourself. šŸ™‚
I knew you were and took no offense. However, the way your post was formatted, someone quickly scrolling through may have misunderstood your post as quoting my own words. I was just adding a little clarity.
šŸ‘

I think we are both on the same happy page.

Rpp: It still cracks me up though, that these folks would take the evidence that immersion was used in Apostolic times (duh!) to conclude that ONLY immersion was used, especially since the first record of the Apostolic rules concerning Baptism explicitely allows for pouring. šŸ˜›

Some folks are just, well, nutty.

Peace and God bless!
I have to agree. It seems so absurd. It is amazing the mental gymnastics some people will go through. It is also sad.

shaka, is your friend a oneness pentecostal by chance?
they call themselves ā€œapostolicsā€ ?

Hmm, not sure about the Council, but almost a thousand years before then, the Bishop of Ravenna said this:

We exhort you in every respect, honorable brother, to heed obediently what has been written by the Most Blessed Pope of the City of Rome; for Blessed Peter, who lives and presides in his own see, provides the truth of faith to those who seek it.

Saint Peter Chrysologus, from a letter to Eutyches, 449

I can’t help but note that you’ve provided no reference for this claim. I can’t seem to confirm it: can you please provide resources that confirm that this claim is true?

Jeremy
Whoops, sorry…if you do a search for the council in the Catholic Encyclopedia you’ll see it cited for a few articles like the Confiteor.

Right now I have one that only gives descriptions of the canons and the introductions rather than the actual texts except for a few instances. But if you want the canons you can find it in a book called Sacrorum conciliorum by Philippe Labbe, volume IV.

Here’s a part of the beginning which I have

Rynaldus, permissione divina et apostolicae Sedis gratia, Sanctae Ravenatis Ecclesiae Archepiscopus, ad honorem omnipotens Dei, beati Petri et Paul apostolorum eius, beatae Apollinaris Patroni, Sanctorum Martyrum Vitalis et Ursicini ac aliurum Martyrum et Confessorum quorum meritis et precibus (can’t make out this bit) Ecclesia Ravennas immo omnes Cathedrales Ecclesiae ac alia venerables de Provincia sunt fundatae et dotatae…

I hnoestly appreciate the leg work you went to to look this up. But I have a request.

Um… For us poor dumb people šŸ˜› who never learned Latin (despite the fact that I love the Latin Mass) can you translate this for us? šŸ™‚

Thanks!

(no, I am not insulting anyone. Just a little tongue-in-cheek here.)

Sorry rpp. I’m not really all that good in Latin but the gist of what is being said is:

Rinald, by the allowance of God and the grace of the Apostolic See, the Archbishop of the Holy Church of Ravenn, to the honour of God, blessed Peter and Paul his Apostles, blessed Apollinarius, Patron, holy martyrs Vitalis and Urisicini and all the martyrs and confessors by whose merits and prayer (snip bit) the Church fo Ravenna, no, rather all the cathedrales and venerable (churches) of the world were founded …

And he goes on to give the usual legalese on how they are assembled in this holy place, in the sight of the holy witnesses, etc., etc. I was too lazy to type it out. šŸ˜›
