Will someone please explain to me the significance of the Council of Trent? Did the council come to the conclusion that the Bible is not the ultimate authority on the spiritual matters of Christians?

The Council of Trent was probably the most important council (with the other being Vatican II). This occurred during the reformation. The Council of Trent reaffirmed what we as Catholics believe in. Here is a list of the documents and such from the Council of Trent.

I would suggest reading these documents to understand what was all defined and reaffirmed from other councils of past. Session IV deals with canonical books that make up our scripture.

Excellent resource.

I must admit that I grew up Baptist. The Reformation is still a sore subject when the topic is brought up.

I hope to make it through all this reading one day.

the reason I created this tread is to have (if possible) a definitive grasp on the teachings of the relationship between scripture and tradition. Prima Scriptura makes sense, but I always want to back track to the Bible (as if God is the Bible).
