Hello everyone!

This is my first time starting a thread on CAF. 😊 I would like to apologize if this thread has been done before or if I am posting it in the wrong place. If that is the case, please let me know where it is appropriate to post it or where a thread like this can be found.

I was looking around for some Catholic shirts that I was going to buy, and came across this:
onlinechristianshopper.com/gachtil.html

On the front it says “This shirt is illegal in 51 countries Restricted in 40 Nations 11 hostile areas.”

My question is: Does anyone have a list what the nations exactly are? I tried looking through Wikipedia and through Google, but I wasn’t able to find anything useful. This is just something that struck me and I wanted to find out more about the subject. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

If Wiki and Google don’t have such a list, you will have to do some legwork (ok, fingerwork).

Hint: Most of these countries are probably Muslim, as since the end of the CCCP in 1991 only Islam has seen fit to ban Christian expression. So do a search on religious policies in the Muslim nations. Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc.

Apart from Islamic locales, communism remains in China and N. Korea. Do a similar search.

Wish I knew more.

The shirt is not Catholic; it is Protestant denominations, and is exageratted writing for denominational reasons, including bias against Catholic teaching. The numbers listed are an exagerration of current conditions, and shows past, historic biases.

The shirt is simply Christian, with a big red cross on the front. There is nothing particularly Protestant about it, nor anything un-Catholic. It says: “This shirt is illegal in 51 countries Restricted in 40 Nations 11 hostile areas.” On the back, in the shape of a cross, it says: “I am not ashamed of the Gospel because it is the Power of God, the salvation of everyone who believes… Romans 1:16.” It then says: “Pray for the Persecuted Church.”

No, the numbers **are not exaggerated **(and there is nothing against Catholic teaching on the shirt).

Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world. A recent study, cited by the Vatican, reported that 75 out of every 100 people killed for religious hatred are Christian. Read more here: Persecution of Christians

Hello, Catholic Trekkie!

There are 57 member countries just in the The Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) alone, and it is safe to say that those countries range from hostility to persecution of Christians. Atheistic regimes such as North Korea and China also persecute Christians. For some reason, our media doesn’t like to cover the persecution stories, but people should know things like the fact that there is not a single church in Saudi Arabia.

Good sites to learn about persecution of Christians:

And, last but not least:

AT THE 16th ORDINARY SESSION OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL
ON RELIGIOUS FREEDOM March 2011

Thank You for the Current reference sites. But 2 ‘nations persecuting’ in the last few days are: Pope Benedict for rejecting a Chinese Govt selected/appointed ‘bishop’, and Isreali Ultra-orthodox group in Isreal persecuting an Isreali Messianic couple (just a quick glance).

Sorry, Antal, but I don’t follow what you are saying here. Could you elaborate a bit? From that site, or from one of the ones in the other post?

My general point was that 51 nations persecuting Christians-- including Catholics-- is a reality, and I wanted to post links in the thread in case there are people reading who have no idea what Christians go through in many parts of the world. The mainstream media generally ignores the problem. They will make a big fuss for example if some small-time preacher merely talks about burning a single Koran, but will not report on hundreds of churches being burned down (with people inside-- oh, and Bibles).

Don’t forget Vietnam. Our current priest is from there. Here’s a recent article to give you a glimpse of what it’s like from the inside.
