Country Western Mass?

In Missouri along I-70, I once saw a church calling itself a “Cowboy Church”. Now I’ve seen everything.
 
…because nothing says “Germany” like a Country Western Mass! :rolleyes:
 
I suppose we could give them the benefit of the doubt… it could be an ethnically Cowboy parish… 😃

I don’t think it was a Catholic church. It just said, “cowboy church” on the sign. And how are you an “ethnic cowboy”? Since I wear cowboy boots, does that make me one? :rolleyes:

You’d have to have been a cowboy that immigrated to Germany during the great “cowboy” migrations of the old west… 😉
 
karow, I speak German and once lived in Vienna, where this takes place… it just gets worse as the video goes on… very sad…

The context is this: there is a 3-day music festival on an island in the Danube in Vienna, the “Donauinsel Musikfest”. There are multiple stages with different types of music
For approximately the last 4 years, the rector of the Vienna cathedral, Fr. Anton Faber, has celebrated Mass at the “Country-Western” stage.

Aside from what is obvious to see… The narrator lists the various abuses as the video runs: During Mass, people are buying food and drinks, eating, drinking, and smoking. Some go straight form the drinks stand to Communion.

If that weren’t bad enough, it goes on… During the creed, Fr. Faber changes the words “I believe in the Holy Catholic Church” to “I believe in the Holy Christian Church.” Later he invites “all baptized christians” to come forward to receive Communion.

Despite vociferous complaints to the cardinal Archbishop Shoenborn over the last few years, he declined to stop this travesty, until this year. The Mass at this year’s Musikfest, which was to take place at the end of June, has been canceled. Instead there will be a prayer service.

“Cowboy church” (usually held in a conference room or some other informal place) is very common before professional rodeos.
