For couples, whether married or unmarried, who pray together, how do you go about it? My SO and I usually read some Scripture, pray a decade of the rosary, a few of our own prayers, etc. He’s the one who does the talking 🙂 But we both are praying, even if I’m quiet!

Another question – do you ever feel like you have SO much to pray for, that you can’t remember it all? How do you, yourself, or both of you together, remember everyone and everything you want to pray for/about? Today he and I were talking about how we feel we need a list of all the people we want to pray for every night. Is that tacky? Do any of you make lists or do something in specific to remember to pray for each person?

My boyfriend and I pray together during Mass right after we receive the Eucharist. This is when we both feel closest to Christ and therefore, we feel like we do our best praying at that time. When we first began dating I was thrilled that he went to Mass on a regular basis and took Catholicism seriously.

About praying for so much at the same time, this is what I do. I have a journal that have people and intentions that I want to pray for. When I don’t have that journal with me I say “God, and I pray for all the people and intentions listed in my journal.” He knows what I am talking about. And the things that you have forgotten say, “God, and I pray for the things I can’t remember but you know what they are.” It’s like confession when we say “For these, and the sins I cannot remember, I am sorry.” God knows that if we had remembered then we would have brought them up. He’s one cool cat.

Don’t feel nerdy about making lists. 🤓 A lot of people do it. (Including me :o )

It took the Couples for Christ Family Ministries to get us to pray together.

My wife and I try to do Evening Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours together, and also praying before meals.

Any suggestions for what to do when kids come along? I was thinking it might be easiest to start them at an appropriate age with learning the Our Father, Hail Mary, etc, and then move up to praying a decade of the rosary together, and gradually add more as the kids get older, or something like that.

Well, you know what they say: The couple that prays together, stays *together *and, the Jesus said whenever 2 or more gather and pray in His name, He will hear the request and grant it.

Unfortunately my ex-husband didn’t pray with me. I think it’s so nice that you pray together.

Yes, I do feel that way. Have you tried keeping a prayer journal? I carry mine in my purse during the day and jot things down when I’m at work. I believe that God knows what our intentions are even if we don’t verbalize them - it could be just a thought of praying for someone and He hears our prayer.

Blessings,
Shannin

Oh yes, good idea…I had considered Liturgy of the Hours prayers.

I wasn’t raised Catholic, but my boyfriend was, and I know his family (parents and 4 kids) always used to pray a decade of the rosary each night growing up. Of course, first have them learn the basic prayers for it, but kids are sharp and will pick up on it quickly. 🙂 I’d say even if they don’t know it, even at maybe 2 years old or so (perhaps younger, I’m not good at this yet)…get them a little rosary and at least let them hold it while all of you pray with your rosaries. The child will feel like a big part of what’s happening, even if he doesn’t know the prayers (yet) 😃

That’s what my boyfriend and I have sort of planned, anyway.

My wife and I pray the rosary together, which is very special to us. We also pray together when we pray with our children, the St. Michael Prayer is a family favorite.

While not specifically prayer, we also study the series Beginning Apologetics, which stimulates a lot of good discussion.

My oldest child is 3.5 and can say the rosary along with us. I think the key to getting kids into it is by example, and making things “special”. For example, for the Office of Tenebrae during holy week, we lit the candles and my daughter blew them out at the appropriate times.

Not pressuring them is key too. I think when they see Daddy getting down on his knees for God they will want to follow suit.

The way i did it was to just one night ask my husband if he would like to pray with me. now we pray together every night. i feel so much closer to him ever since then. first he prays and then i pray, we pray out loud holding hands right after we shut out the lights to go to sleep.

My wife and I also pray together every evening before we go to sleep. We prayed together when we dated.
We normally read a fragment from the Bible, (going through the Gosplel of Mark at this moment), then we say a decade and then depending on the time of a year, could be a Litany, Chaplet of the Devine Mercy, etc. We also started reading the Catechism together so we could be better grounded in the faith.
