“If God wanted me to be brave, He would have given me courage” - Flopfoot

If you’d like, discuss the above statement. Consider this - Courage is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, so obviously, it comes from God. So if I’m gutless, then, is it really my fault, or is it a matter of God choosing to not give me courage? (Hopefully the latter, I love having good excuses for my failings)

Is courage really a gift of the Holy Spirit? What’s your source for that?

Oh, by the way: have you asked God for courage?

Ask, and ye shall receive. 😃

Love and faith are also gifts of the Holy Spirit. That doesn’t excuse anyone, though, from being loving or from having faith. The same for courage. Besides, courage isn’t the absence of fear, it is the virtue whereby we act bravely in spite of our fears.

Unfortunately for us, we have to act on the graces to obtain the virtues. God gives us just enough to make that first step towards whatever is frightening us. Then when we take that step, He gives us more to make the next step. By the time we get up the Mountain, we have all the courage we need!!!

Some people are born with more natural virtues than others. But, God sees how we struggle. My dau is very outgoing and it doesn’t take much courage for her to enter into a social situation. My son is very nervous in groups. When he goes into a group, it takes him lots of courage. The same act of socializing has more merit for my son than my daughter. But, only God (and mom) see it.

The key is responding to that first bit of Grace. God doesn’t expect us to jump up to the top of the mountain. It is a step by step journey.
