My cousin is considering becoming a Catholic. She is 21 years old, an unwed mother (He’s due December. ^_^), and she’s never been baptized. What kind of reading material should I send her to help her become a Catholic?

Praised be Jesus Christ! And of course congratulations to you as well! I would recommend the Bible (any edition would do) and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It may also help to give her some stories of the saints, it helped me.

I think that the Suprised By Truth series by Patrick Madrid is also a good start. Also although I have never read it I heard that Rome Sweet Home by Scott Hahn is also a must.

I think Scott Hahn’s books are great. I really reccomend them. I have a book by him called, “Why Stay Catholic?” . This guy was a Presbyterian minister. He converted to Catholicism.

Scott Hahn’s books are great but they are sort of heavy reading for a young person who knows nothing about God. I reccomend Jeff Cavins’ (sp?) My Life on the Rock - an easier read IMO. Also, there’s another book something like Nuts & Bolts - (not totally sure on the title - maybe someone else can correct me if I’m wrong) It’s topical - easy to read - gives very clear reasons why Catholics believe in this or that… I think the best thing you could do though (in addition to praying for her) is to tell her why your faith is so important to you!!! God Bless, CM <><

Catholic Answers booklet Pillar of Fire Pillar of Truth is also a good starter as she needs to hear the entire gospel message, the message about God’s plan for her, as well as why it’s important to choose Truth - the Catholic Church!!
Good Luck!! 😃

I would recommend having her look into the Catholic Family Ministry called Couples for Chrsit. They are very big in TX. That way she can expierence the Catholic-Christian love and then decide if this is what she wants to do.

Praise God You Wrote.

all good suggestions. I say be guided by her interests. Why is she considering becoming catholic? What are her questions about the faith? I know there must be something that is drawing her to the Faith and that may be where you need to start with reading material. I will pray that you find or that she is drawn to whatever it is that will help her in her decision. There is so much out there. But every one that becomes Catholic or returns to the Faith has something that is drawing them and that is where you have to start to expand their knowledge and draw them in. Some it was the early fathers, others it is the realization that the Catholic faith has the truth about the Eucharist. I was drawn back to the Church by Mary. We all have something that is calling us. You just have to know where that calling point is and she is the one who knows. Maybe you could take her to a Catholic bookstore if you have one in your area. That is if she would like to go.
