Hi I am Kirk Childress I am learning about Sacred Scripture by just of course reading the Bible. I am coming along rather slowly I have been reading for a little over a year I am in the book of Joshua in the Old Testament and the second letter to the Corinthians in the New Testament. My question is out of Genesis and on creation when God instructed Adam and Eve not to partake of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and bad or they would be doomed to die. Does this imply that there was no death before the act of orginal sin and not just for mankind but for all creation. I am interested in seeing responses for this question

Hi, Kirk, and welcome to the Forums!!!

Adam and Eve were created in image and likeness of God.

They would not have died, at least from natural causes. The fact that they acted out of fear when confronted with the devil implies that they had a reason to fear some type of harm.

BTW, are you using any study guides to help? Scott Hahn’s “A Father Who Keeps His Promises” is a wonderful tour through the Bible.

another BTW, Joshua is a wonderful example of a righteous man, isn’t he?
 
Hi this is Kirk Childress that was my thinking of the scripture about creation that there was no death before original sin. There is another discussion forum called Biblical studies on yahoo where I was in discussion on the topic of creation with others and some of them seem to think that there was death before orginal sin. I did not think they were correct but everyone is entitled to their opinion but where they come up with that opinion I cannot understand. I think the scripture is very clear on creation but some read different things into it someway. Another question I have is the Bible I read is the NAB the Saint Joseph edition I hear and read some negative things about the NAB like scripture translations and footnotes etc. I would like to know your opinion of the NAB after all it is the regulation bible of the Roman Catholic Church in the United States I like the NAB but I am not a scholar or a theologian I would like to know your view I look forward to your response I do not know your name I did not see it anywhere on the e mail.

Regarding the NAB commentary, if I could bring up an icon that shows someone throwing up, I would.

Sometimes I think the NAB commentaries were written by someone with a Protestant theology. There are numerous threads on this Forum that deal with that.
