This question is regarding the use of NFP, the Creighton method. What is the easiest way that someone could differentiate between the sensation of smooth vs. lubricative? This is an answer that I haven’t really been able to find anywhere.

Couldn’t you ask your instructor? My instructor at the time was very good at explaining things.

Just in general smooth might be ambiguous, but not lubricative. Smooth is the normal feeling. You could tell the difference when it’s lubricative.

But it’s best to clarify with the instructor.

Thank you ladies. When I’ve asked my instructor, in the past, she basically told me that if I’m having to question it then it most likely is smooth. This answer makes me feel a bit insecure, but I’m sure as time passes and I keep charting, I’ll be able to get the hang of it. Thank you, once again.

I struggled with this when I first started charting. The tip my instructor gave me was to wipe again with a dry tissue if I’m questioning the ‘sensation’. She said if the sensation is truly lubricrative you won’t be able to wipe it away. If you notice after the second wipe it now feels more dry, most likely, you are not really experiencing a lubricrative sensation.

And just like your instructor told you, it gets easier the longer you chart. The APP is great as well if your instructor uses it.
