If they thought this, they’d join the Catholic church!

.
Some leave because they are bitter with the Church over some doctrinal issue. The most -marriage. common is divorce and re-marriage. If one is not allowed to re-marry they go of to another church. My cousin left the Church because the Church was not able to stop his marriage from breaking up. He then joined the JWs. He was a very lonely man and the JWs provided him with company and another religion to turn to. He was very much against the Catholic Church.

My perspective is that of a convert in the Texas panhandle, the middle of the buckle of the Baptist and Pentecostal Bible belt. This is a protestant region and, unfortunately, very anti-Catholic (I was one). Growing up protestant, I sat in many sermons in many churches learning that the Church is pagan and that the Pope is anti-Christ. What is more unfortunate is that many of these “pastors” will sit side-by-side with our Bishop at community events, all the while telling their congregations that the Church is an instrument of Satan. I am not exaggerating, folks. The cradle Catholics in this area don’t even realize how the protestant community in this region views the Church – it is not simply friendly disagreement about some doctrine.

I embodied Bishop Sheen’s comment that millions hate what they think the Church teaches, but few hate what the Church actually teaches. The problems are many. The solution, however, is evangelization – within and without the Church. We need to spread the Gospel to those outside of the Christian faith; we need to educate our separated brethren on the true teachings of our faith; and we need to catechize our own better. Now, I just need to figure how to do this! I am on the RCIA team at the Cathedral, but we need a plan for more community education and outreach.

I look forward to the thoughts and comments continuing on this thread.
Yes. Their ministers actually preach that the Catholic Church is an evil Church. I have never heard a Priest preach against any protestant denomination.

Is anyone catching the irony in this thread?
The irony is not to say, “Come on guys lets make fun of the other religions”. Its to find out why they do it. I never say much to other Christians. I do believe that the Catholic Church is the one true Church but I feel that others should follow whatever makes them comfortable. Recently a friend who is Anglican told me that her friend who is a Catholic asked her to become Catholic so that they could go to church together. I told her she should only convert if she truly believed that the Catholic Church was the one true church. otherwise she should stay where she is.

Classic case of speck and plank, methinks.
A reference to: Mathew 7:3 no doubt…
"Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
Seems to me Don, you are assuming the OP has not “noticed” the log in his own eye simply by starting a thread like this, no? 🤷 Nowhere does this passage say we should not look and consider the specks in the eyes of others. It simply states we must first take notice of our own faults.

Peace!!!

I agree. Are you about to start that thread?

Why is it that many protestants are always criticising the Catholic Church. You never hear them criticising each other.

I had a Pentecostal friend. One day she rang me just as I was going to Mass. She later asked me if I went to Church because I wanted to or because I had to. She told me that Catholics change every thing. (we did not take out the 7 books of the Old Testament. Another day she told me that all Catholics were sinners. My answer was, "Yes Lord I am a pure Pentecostal Pharisee that’s why I can kneel in the front of the church. I am not like that Catholic Publican sinner kneeling at the back of the church:. That shut her up.

I had a Baptist friend who came over at least twice a week. Not once did he not say something against the Catholic Church. Ultimately I ended my friendship with him.

Is it because deep down they know that the Catholic Church is the one true Church?
It is written if they persecute me they will persecute me.

Jesus also said Forgive them they do not know what they do.

St Paul himself persecuted the RCC. Until God said Paul Paul why are you persecuting me?

I believe hate for the RCC is not hate for Christ, but ignorance of Christ.
