Why do Eastern Rite Priests hold a small cross throughout the whole Mass? What’s the meaning of it?

It’s a blessing cross. I don’t know the official symbolism. Traditionally, the Byzantine is a icon crucifix.

It’s called a “Hand Cross” and is very commonly used by Maronite priests. Originally it was, (as is still the case among the EO, OO, and Chaldeans/ACoE), generally reserved to bishops, but it’s use by simple priests in the Maronite Church is of very long standing. I’m not certain about this, but I seem to think that it’s used by Coptic priests as well.

Yes, Coptic priests always hold a hand Cross (like in my avatar). 🙂
