I was received into the Church 8 years ago whereas I had been instructed to Cross myself after receiving Communion and then walk back to my seat. I have taught this to my children and the students in my 2nd year R.E. class. Today, my director told me we don’t need to cross ourselves after receiving Communion since Christ is in us the blessing of crossing ourselves isn’t necessary. Is this true?

Dear K,

Making the sign of the cross is always appropriate. In the Eastern Church they make it even oftener than we do. It is not only an outward sign of our faith, it is also a prayer to the Blessed Trinity. We need it now more than ever!
