Crowning Saint Peter's Statue

Hi everyone. I’m curious, when they crown Saint Peter’s Statue in the Basilica, is it done in ceremony, or do they just do it before they open up for visitors? I’ve never heard of them having a special ceremony for it. And if they have a ceremony for it, who has the privilege of placing the crown? Presumably it’s not the Pope; if it were, there would be a lot of pictures and footage of it, but there isn’t. Does the Archpriest do it? Can the halo be removed, or is the tiara just placed on top of it?

I tried looking on the internet for info but I can’t seem to find any. The only sites that cover it are those ones where people claim that the Pope is the antichrist. You know what’s funny – one site made the usual claim that the Papal Tiara says Vicarius Filii Dei (which of course they claim equals 666); they put up a picture of the Tiara to show that is says that. The thing is, the Tiara doesn’t say that at all. That’s true stupidity: make a claim, try to prove it, then have your proof very clearly wrong.

But anyway, does anyone happen to know? I’m curious because I’d imagine that it would be a beautiful ceremony.

Actually, St. Peter wears the cope and the tiara twice a year: the first time is on February 22nd for the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter and the seonc time is on June 29th, the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul.

I don’t think that there is any particular ceremony attached to the vesture of the statue. In fact, I would suspect that some very skillful staff at the Basilica do this ahead of time, like maybe the night before.

At my parish (and when I was at the Cathedral), we would often close the church to decorate the sanctuary for the big feasts and then reopen it just before Mass began. That is probably the case at St. Peter’s.

I had never heard of St Peter being crowned. I know Mary is Queen of Heaven, Queen of the Universe, etc. Does Peter have a royal title?
