I was just wondering how many Catholics actually wear a crucifix on the outside. If you do, is it small and subtle, or big and bold? Do you wear it while you sleep?

I wear a large(3" tall) St. Benedict crucifix outside my cloths every day, and have been doing so for the last six months. It has only opened me to a few conversations, but they have all been great opportunities. With the size of it, however, I usually have to take it off at night when I get into bed.

I have a St. Benedict Medal Crucifix that is about 2 in in size. Anything larger than that is a danger in my place of work, and I can’t wear it under one of my shirts. ^^;; I’ve worked as a forklift driver/manual worker for my last job and my most recent is a deli worker. Not a good combo.

I know a few people in my sidewalk counselor group who wear huge ones. A couple of them wear like 5 in. ones that are very bulky, but beautiful.

I don’t wear the big one when I sleep usually, because it never fails that I roll over on it and wake up with an ouch. 😛

I’d wear a mini one in bed if I wanted, though, usually one attached to my scapular.

I have a St. Benedict crucifix just like yours, smae size too.
I love the conversations that come from it (on the occasion that any do…)!
God bless!

I wear a 1.5 inch crucifix with a Miraculous Medal behind it. I take it off when I shower or do sports and when I sleep because my other crucifixes have rusted very badly when they came into contact with water or sweat. 🙂

I usually wear a small metal crucifix or a medal of one of my favorite saints.

I had one like that, that I wore under my shirt. I took it off for showers, but nothing else. It rusted and stained some shirts.

Now I wear it outside my new one outside my shirt and take it off for showers and sleeping and some sports.

I wear a 3.5 inch St. Benedict crucifix. I wear it on both the outside(at home) Inside(at work, we cant have any necklaces or the like showing). I take mine off at night, and in the shower.

this is the one to wear, terrific idea

my first Benedictine cross I received as a gift for my oblation was very large almost 6" and I wore it daily for the first year, including especially on the job, until I was criticized by several people who are superiors because the size of it was “upstaging” the bishop’s cross, so I went back to the inexpensive small 1" cross (which keeps breaking, I’ve gone through at least a half dozen).

Wow! 6" sounds like it would be pretty heavy to try to wear around too. Of course, when I first got the one that I have, I thought it was going to be too big to wear all the time, but I have really gotten used to it. Just big enough to keep you from forgetting that you are wearing it.

it was wood except for the medal on a cord and actually lighter than most.

I wear a varity of Catholic jewelry, but not to bed. For that I have a brown scapular under my pillow and a green scapular under the mattress.

I wear a 4 way cross necklace outside of my clothes and never take it off. I do tuck it in my shirt if I’m going to be handling animals so it doesn’t get tangled. this is my second one, the other one got lost when apparently the chain broke, but I’m hoping its here on the farm somewhere.

I really like the 4 way cross which I got here but I’d like to wear a bigger crucifix too.

I used to wear a small crucifix of Christ since middle school (junior high) until my second year of college. Always on display, whenever, wherever. I changed the crucifix for a new one once an academic year passed. This third year, my 14 year old sister gave me a choker with a bead that says “Dios es mi Luz” which means God is my Light. I stopped buying a new crucifix and now I wear this choker.
