Good afternoon to all of you, I hope you are all safe during this pandemic. I am Catholic, not devoted as I once was. I wanted to seek help and answers possibly. I’m dating someone who is not of the faith, and he gave me a Stirling silver crucifix necklace as a gift. He mentioned, I needed God in my life. For someone who didn’t have a a private Catholic education like I or raised in the Catholic church I was surprised for my boyfriend to say such thing. However I noticed the past couple of months, the chain of my crucifix has broken twice. I thought nothing of it, than I just need a new chain. My father is a devote Catholic even superstitious and I called him, he mentioned that there’s a clash of some sort between my guardian angel and evil. I did have the crucifix blessed by a priest. I don’t know if God is trying to tell me something. I plan on praying a rosary shortly. Maybe Im overthinking this. Thank you for the help.

Some of the chains or findings are not very good quality. I would not attribute anything more to it than quality of the materials and the stress put on them.

You need a new chain.

Chains on medals, crucifixes and rosaries are usually not very strong and will break if they just get caught on something like your clothing, your hair, the arm of a chair when you stand up.

I wear my medal on dental floss and use a paracord rosary because I got tired of chains breaking.

98% of chains are completely useless. That statistic is 100% made-up, but I’m pretty sure it’s accurate.

I’d have been more concerned if the crucifix itself had broken twice…but the chain is just because they tend to be easily broken. I’ve been amazed how often I’ve seen very expensive necklaces with flimsy chains. I always insist on an upgraded chain for any necklace as I lost a very precious diamond that was my grandmothers due to a flimsy chain.

Even thought the “delicate” looking chains are pretty, I bypass them! Lesson learned!

I would suggest getting a sturdier rope chain for a crucifix or medal that is rarely removed, especially if you have hair that gets caught in your necklaces. My husband gave me a necklace 12 years ago with a basic cable chain that broke no fewer than five times in the first two years of constant wearing it, until I invested in a $100 18 karat gold chain that has been almost indestructible. I do have the problem of my hair (which is quite long) getting tangled in the links, but a friend suggested using Nair to basically “dissolve” the hair and get it out of the chain (of course, only use it on high-quality chains, not plated ones.)

Chains are a mystery to me. Most of those I had broke several times, including the seemingly sturdy ones I bought for my pendant cross.

The only one which never broke is my medal’s (which I received at my baptism as a 6 months-old), and which is the most delicate-looking chain I’ve had, and which I’ve worn non-stop for probably 10 years in total.

🤷‍♀️

OP, just change the chain. There’s nothing to worry about.
