Wanting to buy a big Crucifix for my room (redoing everything, painting the walls, new furniture, even a new fan! woo! haha) so the walls are de-postered, de-pictured, and ready to be covered with holy reminders. and project number 1 is, as said, a big crucifix for meditation and a morning reminder.

so, anyone got any sites to where i can buy a nice one? basically just lookin for a dark wood crucifix. specifically a st. benedict’s crucifix. lookin around, but not seein much. who wants to go shoppin with me? 🙂

thanks guys!

I don’t know how the OP feels about it, but all those have looked fairly “sanitized”–I like crucifixes with a really beaten and bloody corpus.

when these websites give the inches, is that referring to length or width?
and generally i like a more realistic looking corpus, yes, but basically something that will be very conducive to meditation

I suspect, but don’t know for sure, that it is probably the maximum dimension - the length of the vertical bar.

The dimension given is in fact the length of the vertical bar (top to bottom).

A hint to those who prefer a more “bloody and beaten corpse”…you can do a lot with a small bottle of nail polish. If you feel more confident in your artistic abilities you can embelish a crucifix using a permanent marker.

Catalogs and gift stores that specialize in serving the Hispanic Catholic community have more realistic, less sanitized crucifixes, many that have a “folk art” look. I got mine from a street vendor just over the border. The cross is actual mesquite branches. I find the realistic crucifixes in many churches and chapels here very moving and a real aid to meditation upon the Passion.

Though they are fairly “sanitized”, we have a crucifix that slides open. Inside are two small white candles and a vial. The back acts as a base and candle holder, while the front is inserted in it. I believe this is for last rites or anointing of the sick at bedside. It was my Grandmothers and is cherished. Just an idea. Tim

You don’t have a link to any of these pieces do you? I’ve looked and I can’t find anything like that. Thanks. I love the Mexican or Spanish style crosses.

Amen! We need to see how the Messiah was mistreated so we can truly appreciate His Passion.

In all these links, I haven’t found very many “good” standing/table crucifixes. I’ve been looking for one.

I’ve purchased some awesome (and huge!!!) crucifix’s from e-bay.
