Curious about avoiding the wine/blood and being a server

Lets set the record straight here. Even the Church doesn’t teach that the accidents of the Body and Blood of Christ, which is the appearance of bread and wine, can prevent or cure diseases. Its not about loss of faith. We even have special low-gluten hosts for those who have issues with gluten. Its just the reality of things.
The accidents don’t; the BODY and BLOOD of Christ do. Lord I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed.

Can I just throw something in the mix here. For those who do not receive the body or the blood for whatever reason, when you pass by the sacrament you are not receiving it is an idea to pause for a moment and perhaps bow your head in reverence since it is STILL the blood and/or body of Christ.

Someone mentioned that to me the other day and I thought it might be worth repeating.

Wine has alcohol; alcohol kills germs.
I have never known anyone who has gotten ill from partaking of the Blood of Christ. Wiping the chalice just makes people feel good–and removes lipstick left by women!

That is disturbingly untrue with regards to one person taking a sip, and the next person in line partakes. Also, the percent of alchohol is below the threshold of being an antispetic. Plus, a cursory wipe of the lip of the chalice won’t insure a germ free environment.

I wish I hadn’t started this thread. Sorry.

Prior to converting to the Catholic Church I was an Anglican, we received under both kinds every Sunday, using one common chalice for the whole congregation, no EMHC, the priest distributed the Host and the assistant priest followed along with the Chalice at the communion rail. I received like that along with 200 others or more if visiting another church, never a problem.
