Thank you. I didn’t understand the difference between dispensation and permission.
 
Thank you for all this information. We had plenty of witnesses, and have no idea why they had people in the church office sign rather than the witnesses at the wedding.

There’s no doubt about the witness part.

The terminology used for this, up until 1983, was “dispensation” of what was called an “impeding impediment” (of mixed religion). This kind of impediment was not invalidating.

Thank you, I had wondered because at the time I got married my pastor told me he had to get a dispensation from the bishop when I married a member of the United Church of Canada.
