I was a bit confused at mass yesterday. Fahter opened with this:
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
??? And the Eucharistic prayer was strange. First I thought he was IV as I had never IV. Flip through the missalette…nope, totolly different.

Said something strange after the Memorial Acclamation…flipped through all 4, none of them.

Did the priest accidentally slip into the Rite particular to his order? Did he choose some rarely used Mass? I almost asked “What Eucharistic Prayer did you use, Abbott?” but Felicity was dragging me out.

Then I thought to myself, maybe he used the some parts of the “New Mass”.

Of course, canticnova removed the draft from their website, but at least the first part is still in google cache…and indeed fellowship is replaced by communion.

So, I suppose he was wrong as it hasn’t been approved yet, but I am glad he tried it out on us.

Opinions?Any similar expieriences?

Hello

Not too sure, possible the priest altered some words for modern day english perhaps?

God Bless
Saint Andrew.

There are several canons in the Missal for special services – beyond the four we know.

Was the usual book on the altar? I believe they’re in the back; some of them are extraordinarily beautiful. It is unlikely that he was improvising.

I didn’t mean to imply that he was improvising. I thought he might have been testing the new ICEL that the Bishops are currently bickering over.

But that was my third theory.

The other two being yours, some special one not commonly used, or the normal one to his religious order.

I know that the opening that he used is the suggested new translation.

In the back of the missal there are two reconciliation eucharistic prayers. He might have been using one of those.

I noticed our priest used “communion of the Holy Spirit” at the beginning of mass.

I’m not familiar enough with the rest of mass to notice other differences.

We also had someone received into the (forgive me if I get this wrong) the Rite of Initiation into the Church. Basically he’s beginning RCIA now and will be received into the Church next Easter. Two nice segments for him - one at the beginning of Mass where he received the sign of the cross several times and then after the homily, he received a bible and left to begin his journey and contemplation of the Word.

Praise God!

=)
