So to make a long story short, I’m in the process of exploring Christianity and I feel very drawn to Catholicism. Growing up I never had much interaction with church apart from going to the Lutheran Church where my cousins went a few times. But now as an adult I’m out exploring on my own totally independently.
However, I feel that my aspergers makes it hard for me to really go into depth with the theology apply it to my own life. I tend to be very literally minded and super analytical, to a fault at times. And I worry about services overloading my senses. I’ve learned to manage and overcome certain aspects of my disability, but sound is one where I really struggle even today as an adult.
Then there’s my sexuality, I happen to be gay as well. I want to be a faithful Catholic, but I worry about failing to do so because of my orientation.
I guess I just feel really nervous and scared because I’m doing all of this and I’m afraid of not being understood at one of the churches in my area. If you have any advice or words of encouragement I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.
