Is it a sin or grave matter to cuss? I don’t mean say Jesus’ name in vain but use cuss words? I have never heard anyone comment on this.
I don’t think the Church has addressed that so formally. Is it a sin or grave matter to cuss? I don’t mean say Jesus’ name in vain but use cuss words? I have never heard anyone comment on this.

Aren’t we forming our conscience? I know mine has changed much over time.Intent is key.
Momentary expressions of frustration or shock by means of an expletive are not sins since they are, essentially, unbidden.
However, you should always guard your tongue just as much as you are expected to guard your eyes (i.e. by not looking at stuff you shouldn’t, like porn).
If you intentionally swear in front of someone who you know to be sensitive to bad language or in a situation where your audience is likely to be offended (such as in or near a church), then you would be being insensitive and rude, which would, indeed, be a venial sin.
Accidental utterances would not be sinful and even deliberate utterances in certain contexts wouldn’t be either: i.e. a priest friend of mine used the F word in front of me, which certainly made my eyebrows shoot up in surprise, but he was doing so by means of giving an example of something someone else had said and he knew I wouldn’t be offended.
Basically if your conscience tells you it’s wrong, then don’t do it!
As long as you are not angry at God or at a person when you do you are probably fineIs it a sin or grave matter to cuss? I don’t mean say Jesus’ name in vain but use cuss words? I have never heard anyone comment on this.
