Cutting cable

If anyone ever starts streaming ESPN, the cable companies are toast. That’s the only thing keeping people.
 
We cut out cable years ago and haven’t missed it. There are too many other interesting things to do: reading, playing games, talking, gardening, playing music, and so forth. You will be glad you got rid of it!
 
My wife is currently signing us up for Pius Media, a Netflix-like service that only offers Catholic and family-friendly films.

They have a streaming version, as well (only a handful of selections there, so far).

NFL sunday ticket at 300. Hopefully 2013 will see a price cut in options for streaming.

I am considering cutting cable as well but I am dreading trying to straighten out things with the cable company where I live. Calling them up is like calling an insane asylum and having the patients answer the phone. I’ve considered just driving out to their office, leaving the equipment on their front door, and then changing credit cards.

Is MLB TV through the internet or a TV service? I am very technologically behind the times. The only reason we are keeping cable is because my older boys love to watch baseball games. Everything else we could get through antenna (I know that’s probably not the right term) for local news and via Netflix or a similar service for the childrens’ shows.

I would love to get rid of the cable!

You can stream MLB Network through the internet. If you have a game console you can probably get it that way.

When I can stream ESPN, I can cut cable for good. Baseball alone wasn’t enough for me-I missed all the basketball and the soccer-plus the Sportscenter and other programming.
 
I have no desire to get rid of cable tv. I enjoy watching tv a lot, and that includes cable tv.

We were hanging on to cable strictly for the Food Network… I finally had to cut the chord. It was basically my ESPN. 😃

Alternatives are very much worth seeking out. I opted not to get cable when I moved into a new home last year and it’s been absolutely wonderful. I use an antenna for the times when I watch live broadcasts (yay Oscars next weekend) and stream for everything else. Will look into this Pius Media-- thanks for mentioning it, SonCatcher.

On top of the other issues, it doesn’t hurt to be free from involvement with certain companies’ business practices either. In my area, the only option is…let’s just call it “Bombast”…yeaaah, don’t miss dealing with those guys.

Every month that I write a check to You-Know-Who I just feel dirty for even keeping them in business. When you’re the only game in town you can run your business like some Soviet era bureaucracy and nobody can do anything about it. It’s embarrassing having to deal with them.
