… TAPS …

There are no official words to the music of Taps, but here is one of the more popular verses:

Day is done, gone the sun,
From the hills, from the lake,
From the sky.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.

Fades the light; And afar
Goeth day, And the stars
Shineth bright,
Fare thee well; Day has gone,
Night is on.

Thanks and praise, For our days,
'Neath the sun, Neath the stars,
'Neath the sky,
As we go, This we know,
God is nigh.

my favorite war movie of all time is on, the Longest Day. while working at the local historical society in 1995 the metro newspaper sponsored oral history interviews with WW2 survivors and vets, and my job was to catalog and transcribe the tapes. Met many of these people at various receptions and events planned to commemorate D-Day and other key events. Most of these men had never share their stories, even with family members. The stories are absolutely astounding, humbling, amazing. There is no way to thank them for what they did, and the perspective of subsequent history only highlights their sacrifice and contribution to freedom. Vets everywhere, we salute you.
