Why don’t you make a deal with your dad?

If he is bound and determined to go Protestant, to listen to them and embrace their theology and above all, listen to them tell him about the Catholic Church then, over time, he must give you the same courtesy. He must give you the time so you can explain exactly what the Church teaches - not 2nd hand knowledge from another denomination.

This way, he can get the “milk” to grow and mature and when he’s ready, he can move up to the Catholic Church - to the main course, so to speak! This will also give you time to teach him about all the things he has “problems” with in the Catholic Church.

This may just be God’s way of bringing him home - the long way!?

Remember the song a few years ago by Joan Osborne (One of Us). You know “What if God were one of us, just a stranger on the bus.”

Anyway, it had a phrase of "If God had a face, what would it look like And would you want to see If seeing meant that you would have to believe In things like Heaven and in Jesus and the Saints And all the Prophets and… "

The point is that it is important not to find “God” in a reflection of yourself or not in the reflection/creation of another person but to actually come face to face with the I AM.

Ask him if he is ready to change his life if he came to believe. If he said yes, then ask him if he’d give three days to find God. Then, send him on a three day silent retreat grounded in teh spiritual exercises of St. Ignatious. A retreat like this would do two things: First, it would reacquaint himself w/ the Church of his youth w/o all the baggage he thinks it has (based on your first post). Second, all the information would be presented in a non-threatening way. Third, it requires on in examining everything in his life. Fourth, it will talk about discerning the Holy Spirit vs. false prophets/false teachings.

Just an idea. I just think that when competing w/ simplistic non-denom bromides that can be customized to your Dad’s station in life, the Church that teaches an unchanging, fullness of Truth is at a disadvantage that requires one to look deeper.
