Can anyone recommend a systematic way to read a bit of the bible every day? I want to focus on the New Testament, and of course I have read it before several times, but that was cover to cover, and I am looking for a different approach. Any ideas?

There’s always this:
rc.net/wcc/readings/

Or this:
chnetwork.org/readguide04.pdf

Or even this:
groups.google.com/group/CIN-Daily-Word

For more ideas, please visit my web page, linked below.

Thanks for the help. I like the idea of following the daily Mass readings, rather than just reading scripture cover to cover. I bookmarked those sites. 🙂

I agree that keeping up with the daily Mass Readings is a great way to read a little bit of the Bible every day. So is praying the Liturgy of the Hours, the Divine Office.

Just keep in mind that neither one of those privileged vehicles, however long pursued, will present to you the entirety of Sacred Scripture. They are simply collections of pericopiae, that is, selected episodes and passages cut-and-pasted, as it were. A two-year cycle for weekday Masses, and a three-year cycle for Sunday Masses, and a 4-week cycle for the Hours necessarily leave out a lot of the Bible.

I agree! The daily Mass readings are how I read through now. It helps me keep from skipping over things.🙂

read the daily Mass readings, but follow them in your Bible, and read the “skipped” passages and verses. Or read them with a daily devotional commentary such as Word Among Us. Another great way to read the Bible in historical context is with Our Father’s Plan by Scott Hahn and Jeff Cavins, or Jeff Cavins’ new Great Bible Adventure.
