Do any of you keep a daily journal regarding your prayer life or Spiritual Direction?

I am thinking of starting with a Spiritual Director and wondering if a journal would be a good idea. Ta

For many it is a good idea to keep a spiritual journal. It doesn’t have to have entries every day, but at at least a few times a week.

My daily calendar is used for absolutely everything, because I’ve found in the past that I won’t keep up with anything otherwise. I’ve recently started noting who I’m praying for and my own prayer habits in order to improve upon my own prayer life - and because I’m getting forgetful! 🙂

It’s not a journal, exactly, but it does help me keep track and note important details.

Early in my Spiritual Life, when I was going through much suffering, I kept a Daily Journal for 22 years… each day, I would write 2 or 3 paragraphs, and sometimes a page, of my feelings, my suffering, and my prayer requests… that Journaling helped me tremendously… it made me very articulate in expressing my thoughts, both in public and private.

At times, I would write a down a prayer request, and then over time I would totally forget the particular request, and think that God had not answered me… but occasionally I would go back in the Journal to read what I had written, months or years earlier… and EVERY prayer request that I had written, and forgotten about, God had answered in a beautiful way… it was simply amazing…

I can offer the three words of what my Spiritual Director told me to do those years ago… his simple note to me was all in Capitol Letters… WRITE IT DOWN !!

I have a few online journal accounts for confession notes, links, book notes, and ideas. It would be a shame to lose all of the thoughts, lessons, experiences, and inspirations.

You can keep these notes locally on your PC, but better to put them some place secure from prying eyes and technological failures. Keeping journals is an excellent idea!

I have a paper journal i just bought but do want to keep it private though. Maybe a pc based one would be better? If so, any one would recommend? Thanks

I have always done my Journals’ on the Computer… I wrote a Password for the files to keep them private… I use Microsoft Word…

If you would like to see an entry from one of my Journals’, it is in the “Spirituality” Forum, under the title… “My Near-Death Experience.”

Best of Luck…

I use one, I find it helpful to write spiritual insights in.

You use MS word? How did you password it? Thank you

Ok, just found out how to do that. I may make a journal on pc now as easy to keep it private with a password.

Sorry that I couldn’t get back to you sooner about using a Password for MS Word, I have been gone all day. I see by your next Post that you have found how to do it.
