Daily Mass – Awesome Catholic Tradition

I just started going to daily Mass this week. We have a Rosary half an hour before Mass, and I have made that 2/3 times this week. I am praying the Rosary at home daily right now, so I thought it might be nice to do it in company. I have had some personal tragedy this year, which drew me back to the Church. I am saddened by my situation, but I am grateful that it made me turn toward the Lord.

I hope that I keep going. Right now, it is the most wonderful thing in my life.

My church changed morning mass time just this week, and for the first time I’m able to attend; I’m so excited! I love my hour each week at Eucharistic Adoration and it has given so much strength and peace to my spirit; I know daily mass two or three times a week will do the same.

I’m soooooooooo grateful to our Catholic church for all of the opportunities and blessings it makes available!

Several years ago I attended a one-day retreat at Vallombrosa and the topic was the Eucharist. It was given by Fr. Ron Rolheiser, and he was so profound that I made a promise to myself that I would attend daily Mass so that I could receive the Eucharist and Jesus would be with me always. My family is very far away and I don’t see them as often as I would like – also my husband had passed away and I felt totally alone.
Also I say the Rosary every day – first two decades with my first cup of coffee – second two decades when I take a walk or when I go out to Golden Gate Park for my walk and the last decade before I go to sleep.
I would suggest that anyone in this Forum who feels as alone as I do that the Eucharist every day at Mass and the Rosary will help.

I JUST signed up for my first Eucharistic Adoration! I am really excited to sit up for that ’ just one hour’ with Our Lord! How do you spend your time?

I attend a 12:05 mass in our downtown over my lunch hour when my schedule permits–I make a point of making it work at least once a week. I LOVE daily mass! I notice a big difference in my attitude when I go to a daily mass. I am a fairly new Catholic in faith terms, not years. I love that everyone there is just there to worship–no judegement. I get to fine tune my mass “skills” and just relax and pray. My kids aren’t with me and I can just concentrate on God. I wish I could go every day!

How many of you attend daily mass and how has it helped you in your Christian journey?

When I first decided to check out the Catholic Church, the first couple of masses that I attended were weekday early morning masses. There were only about a dozen in attendence, but their reverence really impressed me. It was a great atmosphere. Quite. Peacefull. Spiritual. A great and intimate experience.

I see that the Mass is televised on EWTN. I tried watching that a couple of times when I couldn’t make it to a live Mass, but although it was nice, it was almost like the difference between going to a dinner and watching other people eat dinner! Not to be irreverent about it, but it just wasn’t the same.

I’ve fallen in love with the FSSP Latin Mass parish in my diocese, but unfortunately cannot attend their 6:30a morning masses. Luckily for me, they have evening masses on Wednesdays and Thursdays and they’re conveniently located between work and home. I do go to evening daily mass at my home parish, which is very close to my house. The 7p daily mass is in Spanish, so it’s kind of like going to a Latin Low mass with no homily. I just bring my English missal and read along, and still get to partake of the Eucharist and speak with the Lord before my day ends.

It’s also nice that my Latin Mass parish has true Saturday mass, in the mornings, with separate readings. It’s sad to me that most every NO parish has mass every day, but for those with a devotion to attending daily mass that the readings are the same at Saturday vigil and Sunday services.

There’s a Novus Ordo Polish/English parish near my house that also has 7p daily masses, but I’ve always been afraid to go because the church is so small and I don’t know if the mass will be in Polish or English. But I go to Spanish masses all the time - going to a Polish mass wouldn’t be much different than that. Maybe I’ll try that one instead next week.

This week I have been attending daily morning mass. It has been a great experience for me for two reasons:

Spiritual: helps me to keep my mind on Christ
Financial: Helps me to get to work on time (I am a chronic late person)

At first I wasn’t sure how I liked it because the mass has no cantor/choir or singing—only spoken. But now I realize that there is beauty in the quietness. I sometimes am in awe of how everyone is there to pray and worship. There is no chit-chat. Everyone is focused on Christ. The only time we even look at each other is when it’s time to give the sign of peace.

I also noticed that some people come in for a few minutes and leave because they have to go to work. It’s a wonderful thing to be able to squeeze in some prayer, in a church, when there is free time.

Also, when I get there a couple of minutes earlier, I can pray silently about any personal concerns I have.

I love the spirit of worship and prayer in the Catholic Church.

Not to disparage any protestant churches, but there was a time that I joined a prayer group. The idea was to have a group of prayer warriors who would pray for the church and its members while one service was going on. Then we would attend the next service. We would take turns praying.

You better believe our human natures got in the way. Whenever I was praying, I would be so self-conscience about how eloquent I was and I would listen out for the “Amens” and “Yes Lord’s” because that would mean I was praying well.

What a pleasure to pray quietly without anyone paying any attention to you.

I think I will continue to attend mass daily even though it takes me over an hour to get to the at 7:45 mass.

I was ex catholic for about 3 decades, though I had no big beef with the Church, and no specific rule against going. I used to go twice a week to a nondenominational church. Then came a schedule change at work and I could only go once a week. So I tried to find another church to go to in morning hours so that I could get back into the habit of going to church twice a week. The Catholic Church was the only one in a city of 60,000 that has morning services so, withing a short time I was going to Catholic Church one morning per week and the non denominational church on Saturday night. You’re right, the Catholic Church is MUCH more prayerful in general and has a more humble disposition before God. And confessing sins together is a good thing and I’ve never seen it in a non Catholic church.

Next I was going twice a week to the Catholic Church, then three times and now four. Today I found myself in a confessional for the first time in over thirty years. This was all because of the impression I got from the Catholic morning services.

Grrr. I can’t go to daily Mass next week. I will only make two weekdays plus the vigil and Sunday. I start my new job next week, and I have to be there at 7am. No evening Mass at my Parish or any of the surrounding Parishes.

That’s still four altogether.

I will probably get into the habit of three during the week and the vigil on Saturday.

The weekday services are shorter but seem more powerful for some reason. I have a feeling that I’m surrounded there by Catholics who just like church more than weekend folk who might be there mostly to satisfy the obligation. It may have something to do with the fact that it’s first thing in the morning too. It’s hard to nail down the reason why it seems more powerful because the newness of being back in church is part of the reason also.

Does anyone go to a daily TLM?

Today, I went to a 6PM mass. I don’t know why I expected there to be chants in Latin.

First of all, I couldn’t hear the priest at all. A couple of times when he faced the audience to say dominus vobiscum (I had to lip read that), we answered “et cum spiritu tuo”. We didn’t chant it.

And of course there was no music.

So basically I tried my best to stay in an atmosphere of prayer, but I’m not too sure I will go to that mass again. My morning OF is better.

Is this how all daily TLMs are?
