Daily Mass

Hello, everyone. This is my first post here, so please be nice. 😉

My question relates to daily Mass. I am fortunate enough to work in a downtown area, which has a Catholic church two blocks away. It’s very handy for Holy Days of Obligation, confession, etc. There is a Noon Mass that I go to when I am able. Sometimes I cannot go because of meetings or because I have a lunch date with a coworker.

My question is this: If someone is able to go to daily Mass every day, is there a requirement to do so? Or is it optional? Is it a “must do” or a “it would be nice to do”? How much importance is assigned to daily Mass?

Thoughts?

no of course it is not required. Participation in Sunday Mass or that on Saturday evening that anticipates Sunday is required. Daily Mass is importance because it underscores the fact that the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is continual unbroken participation in Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice on calvary, and it is required that priests celebrate Mass daily, but not that the faithful attend. Many people have found that daily Mass and reception of communion has made a huge difference in their lives and the opportunity to do so is a gift, but not a requirement.

I have the ability to get to daily Mass so I always try to do so. Some days (like yesterday) I look up and realize that it’s too late to leave and arrive at any kind of reasonable time, so I miss it. Since it is not a requirement, I am sorry to miss, but know that I haven’t sinned. I do find that when I make a priority to be there my days and things at work and home go much better!
 
Daily mass is one of the best things I have ever done. It starts or makes my day so complete. I guess you could say, I even make the effort if I am away from home. Keep doing it, the graces one receives to avoid tempation alone is worth it.
 
I started attending daily Mass a few years ago and really miss it when I am unable to go. However, I know if I weren’t retired, I would not be ab le to go daily and so there is really something to be said for retirement. I admire those who go who work, have young children.
 
It’s optional, but a very good practice. Not even necessarily daily mass, but just going to mass anytime outside of Sunday and Holy Days is good for the soul 🙂

Giovanni Bosco put it like this: “Frequent Confession, frequent Communion, daily Mass: these are the pillars which should sustain the whole edifice of education.” (thanks catholic answers quote box!)
