I attend the Novus Ordo always, I just like to read the daily TLM readings and prayers.

Anyways, I got a Missal, the Baronius Press 1962 Missal. Turns out, it is actually just a Sunday Missal.

But the thing is as thick as my OSV Daily Missal for the Ordinary Form!!! So I assumed it was for every day.
Why is it so think?

And how thick would a Daily TLM Missal be?
And which ones do you recommend?

Obviously someone can/will correct me if I’m wrong, but here is my understanding of the TLM liturgical calendar.

Well, let me preface this with, where were you getting your daily TLM readings and prayers before you got this Missal?

The way the TLM calendar works is that, generally, there are the readings and prayers Proper to every Sunday and every Feast Day. Aside from that, technically there aren’t any others. For Daily Mass, one uses the Proper of Saints. Well, obviously there isn’t a Saint on the Calendar every day, so on those days, it is up to the priest celebrating the Mass to decide which propers to use for the day. One option is to use the previous Sunday’s propers, but as far as I know, if there is no Saint on the calendar, the priest may do a votive Mass or something like that, for any saint he wants or for some other intention.

That is all very basic - no official terminology. Haha…I am sure someone else can explain it better. I think my main point is, there is no scheduled set of propers/readings for every single day in the 1962 Missal like there is in the OF Mass lectionary.

Nope, what you have is indeed a daily Missal (I have the same edition). You can confirm this by checking the Proper of Seasons for Advent, Lent or Easter and you will see that the texts for the weekdays are indeed complete.

What you’re probably seeing is that there are no texts for weekdays for the Sundays after Pentecost (what would be the Ordinary Time). This is because there are none. On weekdays After Pentecost, what is celebrated is either the Mass of the Saint according to the Proper of Saints, or if there aren’t any saints for that day, the Mass can be either that of the preceding Sunday, or a Votive Mass according to the weekday (e.g. Mass of the Holy Eucharist on Thursday, Mass of the Holy Cross on Friday, Mass of the Sacred Heart on First Friday, Mass of our Lady on Saturday, etc.)

What you’re holding is probably the best TLM Missal you can get.

Would my old St Joseph daily missal from1960 have the correct readings?

And which ones do you recommend?
I strongly recommend the St. Andrew’s Daily Missal. It’s replete with excellent commentary, and physically compact. Font is somewhat small, but for content purposes alone, it’s my favorite. Incidentally, I found out that this was the same Missal my grandparents utilized, so it must have been popular even then.
