I am looking for a one-book Breviary/Divine Office/Liturgy of the Hours, for use in the UK, Ireland or Canada (one of the three, either one, is fine). Either form.

I also want to know if it is permissible to use the Book of Common Prayer’s offices, for private devotion, not as the official prayer of the Church.

If you want a trad one volume in English, consider the Anglican Breviary. Don’t be fooled by the name, it’s basically an English translation of the Roman Office.

I have heard some FSSP priests recommend it to laity.

There are several one book breviaries that are approved for use in the UK. All are published by Collins and are available through Amazon.co.uk

They are:

Daily Prayer - (about $51) - (includes the major daily offices of ‘Morning Prayer’, ‘Evening Prayer’, ‘Prayer during the Day’, and ‘Night Prayer’, for every day of the church year. The only omission from the full ‘Divine Office’ is the Office of Readings)
Morning and Evening Prayer - (about $32)
Shorter Morning and Evening Prayer - (about $11)

Which book you get depends on how much of the office you want to pray and how much you want to spend.

I have both the 3 vol complete Divine Office and the Daily Prayer.

I use the UK version even though I am in the US for 2 reasons. First I like the Bible translation better, also I like that they include the Celtic saints.

I don’t know much about the BCP. My guess would be that it would be frowned on, but since it’s private prayer there would be nothing to stop you. Best to ask your priest.
 
It appears that the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham are about to publish a daily office based on the 1662 Book of Common Prayer.
