Does anyone know of any good thrift stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth area? I need to get some furniture, and I’m perfectly happy restoring/recovering used furniture to save money. I’ve tried looking online, and don’t see any Vincent de Paul’s in the area. I can bring my husband with me, so it’s ok if it’s not in a great area of town…

Not at all familiar with the particulars of Dallas, but one of the great tricks of the trade is to scour the warehouses and sample sales of the big retail outlets. For example Marshall Fields in the upper midwest has furniture warehouses in (at least) Mpls and Chicago where it ships overstocks, special order rejects, floor samples, etc. They carry everything from rugs to lighting mattresses, tables/charis, upholstered pieces, etc. They advertise several sales a year, but are open to the public during limited hours all year long. There is often a lot to sort through, but there are plenty of diamonds in the rough if you are patient–and the discounts can be impressive. I’m sure something similar must exist in a marketplace as large as DFW. Find it and you’ll have new furniture at a fraction of the cost of most retailers.

Another option if you are willing to recover is the furniture rental outfits–(ie Cort) They will sell their stock from time to time–but you never quite know where it’s been…:hmmm:
Good luck!

If you venture North, into Lewisville, there is Christian Community Action, which has a huge thrift store. I believe it is off the 35, on Corporate Rd. There is also a really cool store, Thriftworld, right off 35 and 121, but I don’t believe they have furniture. If you want to venture further North, there is another CCA in The Colony.

Good luck,
Nicole
