If you go to the park and your dog starts picking up a branch thats fallen from of a tree and starts damaging this piece of wood are we morally obliged to stop him, report the damage and pay for it?

And are we allowed to take home chestnuts that have fallen from trees in parks? Or would that be stealing?

Or maybe I just over scrupulous?

You must follow the civil law in cases like these. If the civil law says you may not collect chestnuts in the park, then you may not. Otherwise you may. Similarly for the dead wood.

It is a branch that has fallen from a tree…how can a dog possible “damage” it?

Regarding Chestnuts from a public place…I would not. How would you know whose dogs have urinated and defecated on at near them? Grosssssss.

Talk to your priest about scrupulosity.
