Now that i honestly do seek out something. Although i still hesitate to admit to something that i think i know i already do. (believe in god) I realized something that i had completely forgotten, drunk with some of my athiest freinds we had all got together and did a group, blasphemy challenge. and we said “We deny the Holy Spirit, God the Father and Jesus the Son” Followed by blasphemous witty reparte…

Now i come to this realisation, is there even any point in me seeking out the lord as i am already damned. It’s really quite a heavy wieght pushing down on me, I don’t want to tell my local priest or anyone i know who is catholic because it feels rather shamefull…

Don’t despair!!

Here is what you need to do - 1) pray to God to bring you to repentance (you’re presence here indicates He is already moving you to such); 2) go to a Catholic Priest and say you want to go to Confession; 3) confess your sins, receive absolution, and live for the Lord.

The only unforgivable sin is final impenitence, to die refusing to repent of your sins. But God will forgive all you have done - trust in the Lord.

Also, do not be afraid to go to your Priest. He has heard everything and then some. Trust me, you will not shock him by what you have done.

You may need to wait till Monday (since today is over and tomorrow is Sunday) to be able to go to Confession, but go as soon as you can.

First, are you, or have you ever considered yourself to be Catholic? Your profile says “all yet none”. If so, just go to confession. If you could tell us, you can certainly tell a priest. You do not need to go to your own parish if this embarrases you. The fact that you can be repentant of this proves that you are not beyond redemption. Also, it may be advisable for you not to drink with those friends.

As I understand it, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit consists of attributing to the Devil the acts of the Holy Spirit. ie - saying that the Devil was responsible for what was an act of God. Jesus had just healed one person and exorcised demons from another and the Pharisees said that it was because He was in league with Beelzebul. This is the unforgivable sin. You can repent of denying God.

Are you already Catholic? If so, you can confess. If not, you need to go through the process of adult initiation and you’ll need to contact the priest at your local parish and discuss with him what would be necessary in your circumstances.

Confessing to a priest is something that takes humility, swallowing our pride. All sins are shameful and admitting them is difficult. We’d really rather not have someone we think highly of know all the shameful things we do. The amazing thing is, once they are confessed and forgiven, that huge weight just lifts right away and you wonder why you carried it so long. Satan wants you to think that you can’t be forgiven or that it is too shameful to admit. However, you have just admitted it here, albeit anonymously. Going to a priest and confessing behind the screen will allow you to remain anonymous so do not be fearful on that account.

Do not carry this sin any longer than you have to. You might not get the chance to confess. You could be run over by a bus, or a drunk driver or suffer any kind of lethal accident. There is not always tomorrow available. Personally, I’d rather wear the embarrassment of telling the priest I had done something very bad and shameful than bearing the consequences of dying with an unconfessed mortal sin on my soul.

This means the refusal to come to the sources of Redemption, which nevertheless remain “always” open in the economy of salvation in which the mission of the Holy Spirit is accomplished. Many people are so blinded by sin that they have no idea they are in need of mercy. You however have humbled yourself and are looking for the hand of Jesus to pull you out and thats wonderful news. I read passages from the bible as you did when I was battling depression. Not having experienced mercy and reconciled myself thru confession, I sank deeper into despair because I did not properly understand the bible or the promises of the new covenant. My advice is get to confession. Ask the priest to help you make it complete and he will. Remember the Good Shepherd longs for your return and will welcome you with opened arms. If you are of another faith denomination STILL visit with a priest and he will help you. Explain yourself without reservation.

Of course you believe in GOD. He loved you all the time you didnt know him so well. You are experiencing a miracle in your heart and mind and thats a beautiful thing. Conversion is an ongoing process. Jesus told the apostles he would make them fishermen of souls. You are in a position to lead your friends to GOD as well. Dont hesitate. You can do it with the help of Jesus our Lord.

This is so encouraging reading the previous posts. It’s wonderful to be surrounded by brothers and sisters in the Lord that can counsel in a wise manor.

I have this image in my mind’s eye of a shephard caring a lamb/sheep. If you haven’t read A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23, it’s a great read. It gives a wonderful painting of how the Shepherd goes after the lost sheep, puts him on his shoulders and carries him back. Abbadon, consider The Good Shepherd carrying you right back to where you belong.

Sometimes Jesus’s words have a more complex and deeper MEANING than a surface reading of them would make it seem.

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is one of those cases.
Remember, Jesus said any sin and blasphemy can be forgiven, but that “blasphemy against the Spirit” would not be forgiven.
Now, God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Many people have blasphemed God. Blaspheme God, and you’ve in a sense blasphemed all three persons, yet people do this in moments of passion, anger, frustration, depression, drunkenness, etc., yet repent later and get completely forgiven. So, blasphemy against the Spirit that Jesus was referring to, is something that goes WAY BEYOND saying horrific words that you are later sorry for sincerely. Remember, you wouldn’t even be REPENTANT if it weren’t for the Holy Spirit provoking that godly repentance in you, so don’t despair. The Unforgivable Sin which the Pharisees may have been guilty of, consists of a malicious opposition, expressed in forever-unrepented words, to the manifest work of the power of God. The Pharisees who kept attributing Jesus’s works to Satanic power did not sincerely believe this to be the case due to ignorance or frustration or depression or drunken foolishness.
They had a malicious, self-righteous hatred of Jesus because he did MERCIFUL acts, such as curing cripples on the sabbath.
They were so infuriated when he instantly healed the man with the withered hand that they immediately went out and conspired with the Herodians to destroy Jesus. Over an act of MERCY done by DIVINE power, that could only BE DONE by the power of God. But they were so hard hearted and self righteous that they wanted Jesus dead for doing it. That’s just plain sick, and one reason why we must cultivate humility and charity in our hearts.
They did this to Jesus continuously, culminating in their repeated assertions that Jesus was possessed by the Devil (in order to turn people away from Him), which continuous malice prompted Jesus to warn them against such behavior.
Men whose hearts are this stone hearted rarely, if ever repent, because even the mercy of God’s Spirit manifested in their very presence unmistakenly, does not even move them to have second thoughts about their self-righteous opposition.
Are you sorry for what you did?
Confess it to a good, orthodox Catholic priest, confess it privately to God too, apologize sincerely, receive absolution, and then forget all about it. If you DON’T, the Devil knows what scares you and he will make you obsess about this to try to destroy your faith. Don’t let him. He did it to me once and over this very same issue, and he tries from time to time to scare me over it again too.
He knows what scares us and he knows that we frequently don’t understand the deep meaning of Christ’s seemingly-simple phrases. Be of good courage and pray.

…I looked for your name (online) but did not find a meaning… I remeber a long list of things that were going about in your mind… the fact that you are seeking God demonstrates that you understand that He needs to be in your life…

Rejecting the Holy Spirit seals your fate… but it is God the only One that knows when that fate is to be sealed…

Paul (Saul) pesecuted the Church (the Way) and he did everything within his power to eradicate those fallen-away Jews… He was wrong! Jesus converted him and he became a great Apostle…

Though we may reject God, He does not go back on His Word (Word is Bond); so when Jesus told His Apostles that the other Paraclete (the Holy Spirit) would come to the world He meant it! And it is the Holy Spirit who works in you (seeking to make all of us into children of God); wanting to change that old creature that resides outside of God into the new creature who can call God Abba (Father)!

Do not hesitate; though it is not known to us when that hour will come, there is a time when we will not have the opportunity to repent and make Jesus our Lord and Savior. So do not wait a moment longer. Commit yourself to being this person that God wants you to be. Change your old self to a new self in Christ:

Go to a local Catholic Church, speak to a Priest about your resolve to return to Christ, ask him to grant you the Sacrament of Confession (you do not need to give him personal data: name, address, phone number, etc. When you are comfortable enough you will share that information willingly); don’t be afraid to divulge all of the sins or things that you consider sinful–you can even cry if you feel the need; don’t just write a list and go through it as though you are shopping in a supermarket. Go as slow as you have to; though the Priest does not need to have unabridged accounts, he does need to know wha ills your spirit so be as honest as you can. You can even ask the Priest to assist you in your Confession.

All the while remember that Jesus does not judge your actions (why, how often, when); Jesus just wants you to repent, dedicate yourself to Him as His disciple and strive to abide in Him.

Grab your Bible and read Isaiah 1:18-19.

But i won’t ever fake it so whether i reach it or not can only be judged in time. I just hope that if there is a Christian god that he sees the merits in my search for the truth, and i am not damned for not excepting it before my time here ends.

It may be that you would be damned if you died now, though how should I know this for certain? However, if you do repent, this passage would not apply to you, whatever it means exactly. And too you should cast aside your shame about confessing this to a priest. What difference does telling it to a priest make? God already sees you, and your guardian angel sees you, and perhaps many of the saints in heaven have seen you in this. Telling it to a priest is only one more who knows of your deed (though it you do not go to face to face confession, he will not even know who you are.)
Still, it is better to feel ashamed that damned.
