In the readings for Mass for Monday March 30, 2009, the Old Testament reading is from Daniel 13. Two versus struck home with me in regards to “sins of the flesh.”

The first is:
“That year, two elders of the people were appointed judges,
of whom the Lord said, “Wickedness has come out of Babylon:
from the elders who were to govern the people as judges.””

The second is:
“When the old men saw her enter every day for her walk,
they began to lust for her.They suppressed their consciences;
they would not allow their eyes to look to heaven, and did not keep in mind just judgments.”

In regards to the past actions of sin by priests:
“Wickedness has come out of Babylon:
from the elders who were to govern the people as judges.”

In regards to the steps an individual takes in their life that leads them into sin:
a) they suppressed their consciences;
b) they would not allow their eyes to look to heaven
c) they did not keep in mind just judgments.

If you lok at abortion, euthanasia, assisted suicide, artificial birth control, adultery is it probable that these three decisions are a major part of their life.

I know for me, when I read this passage, I prayed to God to seek Him earnestly lest I fall into this error and a lot of trouble.

Regards,

Thank you for this post, Terry.

Yes, you are right. We must not turn our eyes away from the Lord, lest we bring about our own sin as well as the sins of others.
