Daniel 3:26-41 not in King James version?

Hello
I was surprised to see that the prayer of Azariah in the furnace
(one of my favorite prayers in scripture) is missing from my KJV
Why is this?

it was in the original King James version along with all the other deutero-canonical books included in Catholic bibles. about 200 years ago evangelical bible societies in America and elsewhere began removing these books, which include a section of Daniel, from low-cost bibles they printed for distribution in through their churches and missions. that is why most bibles printing in English under non-Catholic auspices do not contain these books.
 
The printers in England originally dropped books from print to save money, or increase their prophet margins, however you want to say it. Or, so I’ve heard.

There’s a lot missing from the modern KJV. In general the KJV old testament omits whatever Jewish bibles dating from the Christian era also omit. For example modern Jewish bibles lack 1-2 Maccabees and several other books, plus individual passages such as yours in Daniel and several others from Esther. The KJV new testament is the same as ours.

The KJV was made by Protestants during the reformation. Although they translated the whole bible at first, they later collected the parts they wanted to take out under the heading “Apocrypha” which can still be found online, e.g. quod.lib.umich.edu/k/kjv/browse.html (scroll down to “Prayer of Azariah”).

Protestant Bibles often do not contain the Deuterocanonical books, which includes parts of Daniel.

If you want a Protestant Bible that has it, ask for a Bible “with Apocrypha”. Pretty much any Protestant bookstore or secular bookstore should be able to get one for you.
 
the numbering of chapters and verses in Daniel do vary between translations even among oficial Catholic Versions. I dont know the formal reason for this but it coud vary depending on the original source that the translation is taken from (or if it’s been translated from the LXX)

for example Verse 31 of Daniel Chapter 5

In many bibles this is listed as Chapter 6 Verse 1

It then takes several verses in Dan 6 before the numbering correlates again.
 
2 examples to bibles with this verse as 6:1 are
Jerusalem Bible
Christian Community Bible.
