I really enjoy Father Ray Kelly’s version. One of the better ones.

There are so many versions of Danny Boy, some very good, you could post one for every day in March and we are already past the 1st so I may add on to this thread or even others in the same general theme.

Anyone else can too.
 
In my estimation, the song is so universally liked and recorded by so many artists, in the end, it is a subjective judgement.

Mario Lanza, Al Hurt, The Chieftains, Al Hirt, I really enjoy Roger Whittaker’s version though I don’t appreciate perhaps his choosing of the lyrics.

Elvis has a version, it’s just been recorded by many including a fine big band rendition by Glenn Miller. I think Father Ray Kelly’s rendition is a relatively recent one and I’ll repeat “among the better ones”.

It’s universal, eternal and has an interesting history should anyone care to ever read about it, the history might not be what you expected but on the other hand, if I can call it a folk song, it’s been handed down and we may not be certain of what its origin is.

Maybe it was sung 300 years ago, so who are we to say what is the best version!

Father Ray Kelly does a great job. I just heard this Sinead O’Connor version. youtu.be/kSjvLG7IJAI
I’ll say an Ave for Sinead, one of the world’s great singers. 👍
