Daredevil (TV Series)

Anyone watching Daredevil? What are your thoughts on the Catholicism in the show? Too much? Not enough?
 
I really enjoyed it and look forward to the second season and rumored appearance of Daredevil in one or both of the next Avengers films. Infinity Wars 1 and 2. I liked that they showed him seeking advice from, who I presume, is his parish priest. I like how Matt Murdoch also proclaims his Catholicity.

I’m also excited about the prospect of a potential Punisher series on Netflix. If it’s as good and as well made as Daredevil, I’m all for it.

I thought at one time Mass was called the Eucharist or Celebration of the Eucharist? but I could be wrong.
 
I have not seen the Netflix version, but in the Ben Affleck movie, I thought the way they depicted his internal struggle was very good.

Is the Punisher Catholic?

The Catholic character I like best is Nightcrawler, hands down.

Nightcrawler definitely one of my favorite characters. Punisher as far as I’ve read, is Catholic and was in seminary but questioned his vocation when he realized he could not grant forgiveness to anyone who broke the Ten Commandments.

Another favorite character is Gambit, who I think would be considered a lapsed Catholic. Also considering his family seemed to delve into more Cajun cultural magic/vodun mixed with a sprinkling of Catholicism, I might think even Santaria. Though the household was considered Catholic.

Nightcrawler actually became a priest in the comics 😃

To my knowledge, Punisher is Catholic because of the reverence he displays whenever he is in a Church, added that his is Italian and most Italians are Catholic.

Elektra is Greek Orthodox if I remember from a comic once.

Maybe the Vatican and Catholics in general may reach non-Catholics by indirectly including Catholics in TV Series, Movies etc.

This is why some Catholics felt reassured watching ‘Vera’!
 
I love that show but it is really hard to watch sometimes. It really affects me. After we watch that the wife and I have to watch a lighthearted comedy before we go to bed.
 
When Frank Miller returned to do the comic series, he brought back Matt Murdock’s thought-deceased mother–who is now a Mother Superior at a convent.
 
Daredevil is unique in the sense that he is a lawyer and vigilante. He’s a man of principle who doesn’t believe in wanton killing like another Catholic superhero - the Punisher! 😃
