Hi just to let you all know it goes both ways

My friend whom is a southern baptist fell in love with a catholic guy. His parents blew a gasket so much so that they made him decide and he chose the girl. They married in the s baptist church and have a daugher and his parents to this day will not acknowledge the marriage or their granddaughter.

You really need to try to work it out, while you can make it work it lends to heartache, and in the end if he stays like my girlfriends hubbys parents, oh well you know you tried.

Im with the earlier post let the dad know your not converting him. Why dont you start with what is the same ie Christ, who He is and what He did, does and will do. The rest of it all really is not as important, its just extra. Someone told me that if you follow all the red letters in a bible and nothing else you cant go wrong.

You guys are going to love this. After considering my options for a bit, I made a decision. Read on.

Ky’s Dad sent her another email. In the email he apologized if he had offended her or me, but went on to say that he had serious questions about Catholicism, and he did not understand why it was that nobody would show him where he was wrong…if he was wrong. He then went on to ask a litany of questions…most of which we have all seen at one time or another:

Why does the Catholic church oppose the reading of the Bible?

Why do we think that works has anything to do with salvation?

Etc.

Ky gets this email and sends it to me, and then she breaks down crying because he will not leave us alone. But, the email brought me to another perspective on this thing. Maybe I am crazy, but the email sounded as if a forty something year old man was trying to determine if the path he was on was really the correct one or not. I mean, in his mind there are a billion Catholics going to hell, and he does not understand how that can be unless Catholicism is wrong.

So, here is what I decided to do. An Apologist, I am not. Still, I think that it is time to break the silence on this issue and start proving to him that we are not a bunch of heathens.

Thus, I sent a response to his email in which I refuted each and every point that he made and backed it up with scripture.

I think that in his mind, hell may have just frozen over. It took about 24 hours, but he got back to me. He thanked me for taking the time to inform him, and he asked if he could continue to debate these points via email one at a time. I agreed to this, and we have started the process.

I just wanted to bring you all up to speed on what is happening on this deal, and I wanted you all to know that I may be calling on you knowledge and wisdom from time to time in order to convince this guy. So, for all of you aspiring Apologists out there…this may be your time to shine.

I thank you for your continued support.

God Bless!

Sadie, that’s great! And email will be such a blessing to you because you will be able to “print” a thoughtful, well-researched answer instead of giving a pressured less thought out answer.

God bless both of you…and don’t forget to treat his daughter like a queen 😉 👍
